European Computer Driving Licence

In 1998 an agreement was concluded with the http://www.ecdl.com/publisher/index.jsp, which serves in Estonia as the basis for the EITS work relating to the composition of the test programmes and the awarding of computer driving licences (Arvutikasutaja Oskustunnistus - AO) corresponding to the all-European qualification standards.

The AO tests may be taken in the AO test centres approved by the EITS. The AO is designed for anyone who wishes to prove their computer skills at the level accepted all over Europe.

The computer skills certificates are divided into seven modules:

AO1 - Basic knowledge of information technology
AO2 - Use of the computer, and filing system
AO3 - Word processing
AO4 - Spreadsheets
AO5 - Data bases
AO6 - Designing and drawing
AO7 - Use of information networks

The test assignments for all the modules, except the ones of  module AO1, are  practical rather
than theoretical. The assignments are based on typical  everyday procedures realised by the computer. The
tests may be taken in any order at different AO test centres within three years. The tests that are deemed
unnecessary may be disregarded altogether. The test assignments are not related to any specific software or
hardware manufacturer, the objective is to make them as universal as possible.
